The new chassis has been designed to eliminate the need to rely on foam as the energy absorbing layer.

This was achieved by making the chassis hollow.

Introducing an air gap means that on impact, the energy is absorbed by the material flexing. This coupled with careful choice of manufacturing materials has greatly improved performance.

The major benefit of this is that the load that the shield can safely carry has been increased dramatically, hence improving the safety of the officers using the Mk.3 Scorpion Shields.
